What Are Bare Metal Servers
Bare metal
servers are physical computers that are dedicated to one
consumer, or tenant, only,
they can also be referred to as single-tenant physical servers or
managed dedicated servers. The
operating system is installed directly on the server, eliminating
layers and offering better performance.
Each server is a
distinct physical piece of equipment that is a functional server on its
own, they are
not virtual servers or cloud devices running multiple pieces of shared
software.
The term Bare Metal Server is used for distinguishing between servers
that can host multiple tenants
and which utilize virtualisation and cloud hosting. Unlike bare-metal
servers, cloud servers are shared
between multiple tenants. Each bare-metal server may run any amount of
work for a user, or have
multiple simultaneous users, but they are dedicated entirely to the
entity who is renting them.
